Overviews
In our laboratory, we have been conducting various fundamental and applied research projects related to interfaces as well as applied research in energy, drag reduction, heat management, and flow control. Currently, the focal research areas in our lab include (1) creating new flow characteristics such as active turbulence and superfluid-like property using natural/artificial active particles for fluidic-thermal applications, (2) generating electrical energy utilizing nanoscale liquid transport phenomena for energy applications, and (3) understanding cytoplasmic within plant cells for biological applications. Fundamental Research
Active Fluid Dynamics: Studying flow phenomena within plant cells, flow phenomena of bacterial clusters, and characteristics of fluid flow by artificial active particles.
Nanoscale Transport Phenomena: Investigating nanoscale transport phenomena induced by temperature gradients or ion concentration gradients.
Wetting/Capillarity: Drop impact on superhydrophobic surfaces, Surface tension driven pheonomena
Applied Research
Energy: Research on generating electrical energy from ion concentration differentials, temperature differentials, and evaporation phenomena
Thermal Management: Studying phase change phenomena such as evaporation/condensation and enhancing heat transfer performance
Water Management: Clean water collection based on atmospheric water collection, evaporation phenomena, water desalination using special membranes, and water-oil separation
Frictional Drag Reduction: Reducing fluid friction drag using superhydrophobic surfaces
